The idea of ‘Green at the heart’ is the common thread that ties this series of paintings together.
By placing what the twelfth century Abbess Saint Hildegard of Bingen called Viriditas or ‘greenness’ at the centre of her thinking Hildegard recognised that people can only thrive when the natural world thrives.
The oil paintings in this exhibition are seasonal, informed by visits I made to gardens both in this country and abroad.
As a keen gardener and ex-florist, I believe a symbiotic relationship exists between painting and gardening, the colour harmonies and forms likened to brushstrokes.
